Description

  • Picoral is indicated for constipation of any etiology, relief from prolonged & recurrent constipation, and bowel clearance before surgery, childbirth, or radiological investigations. It is a triarylmethane group derivative stimulant laxative, which is activated by colonic bacteria and acts locally in the colon, stimulating nerve endings of the intestinal wall, resulting in colonic peristalsis and softening of the stool. It is available in tablet and oral solution forms, with recommended dosages for adults, children over 10 years, and children aged 4-10 years. The product may interact with diuretics, adreno-corticosteroids, and antibiotics, and is contraindicated in cases of ileus or intestinal obstruction, severe painful and/or feverish acute abdominal conditions, acute inflammatory bowel diseases, severe dehydration, and known hypersensitivity. It may cause side effects such as hypersensitivity, dizziness, syncope, gastrointestinal disorders, diarrhea, abdominal pain, abdominal cramps, nausea, and vomiting. Use during pregnancy or lactation should be avoided, and precautions should be taken for prolonged excessive use, alcoholism, and high-risk groups such as patients with liver disease or epilepsy. Overdose effects may include chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, hypokalemia, secondary hyperaldosteronism, and renal calculi. It belongs to the therapeutic class of stimulant laxatives and should be stored below 30°C, away from light and moisture. The molecular formula of Sodium Picosulfate is C18H15NNa2O9S2.
