Indications
- Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with initial and repeat courses of emetogenic cancer chemotherapy
- Prevention and treatment of post-operative nausea and vomiting
- Prevention of radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
Description
Orally dissolving film designed to be applied on top of the tongue where it will dissolve within 20 seconds and then is swallowed with saliva

Pharmacology
- Potent, highly selective 5HT3 receptor-antagonist
- Blocks initiation of vomiting reflex
- Antagonizes 5HT3 receptors on neurons in the peripheral and central nervous system
Dosage
- Different dosages for adults and pediatric patients
- Oral tablets, orodispersible tablets, and injections
Administration
- Tear the pouch carefully along with the edge tear mark
- Place the film on top of the tongue where it will dissolve within 20 seconds
- Do not chew or swallow the film whole
- Swallow after the film dissolves
Interaction
Metabolized by hepatic cytochrome P-450 drug-metabolizing enzymes
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components
- Concomitant use of apomorphine

- Diarrhea
- Rash
- Sensation of flushing or warmth
- Hiccups
- Liver enzyme abnormalities
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus due to Ondansetron
- Excreted in the breast milk of rats
Precautions & Warnings
- Hypersensitivity reactions reported in patients who have exhibited hypersensitivity to other selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonists
- Should not be used instead of nasogastric suction
- May mask a progressive ileus and/or gastric distension
Use in Special Populations
- Dosage recommendation for patients with impaired renal function same as for the general population
- Dosage recommendation for patients with severe hepatic impairment
