Indications
- Treatment of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma
- Prevention of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma
- Treatment of reversible airway obstruction associated with bronchitis
- Treatment of reversible airway obstruction associated with emphysema
- Relief of acute dyspnea
- Prophylactic use before exertion
- Prophylactic use to prevent exercise-induced asthma
Pharmacology
- Selective β2-adrenoceptor agonist
- Acts on the β2-adrenoceptors of bronchial smooth muscle
- Fast onset of action within 5 minutes
- Short-acting bronchodilatation (4-6 hours)
- Anti-inflammatory effect on mast cells
- Inhibition of release of bronchoconstrictor mediators
Dosage
- Administer by oral inhalation only
- Shake well before each spray
- Maximum dose for adults: up to 8 puffs in 24 hours
- Maximum dose for children: half the adult dose
- Prophylactic dose for adults: 2 puffs 15 minutes prior to exercise or allergen exposure
- Chronic therapy dose for adults: up to 200 mcg (2 puffs) four times daily
- Chronic therapy dose for children: up to 200 mcg (2 puffs) four times daily
Administration
- Correct and regular use to prevent or lessen the severity of asthma attacks
- Inhaler usage steps according to National Asthma Guidelines
- Instructions for cleaning the Inhaler
Interaction
- Contraindicated with non-selective beta-blocking drugs such as propranolol
- Potentially serious hypokalaemia may result from β2-agonist therapy
- Caution advised in acute severe asthma with concomitant treatment with xanthine derivatives, steroids, diuretics, and hypoxia
- Recommended monitoring of serum potassium levels in certain situations
Contraindications
- History of hypersensitivity to salbutamol or any other components

Pregnancy & Lactation

Precautions & Warnings
- Production of paradoxical bronchospasm
- Clinically significant cardiovascular effects in some patients
- Electrocardiograms (ECG) changes
- Immediate hypersensitivity reactions
- Caution in patients with convulsive disorders, hyperthyroidism, or diabetes mellitus
- Caution in patients unusually responsive to sympathomimetic amines
- Aggravation of preexisting diabetes mellitus and ketoacidosis reported

- Safety and effectiveness established in children 4 years of age and older
