Description
Coralbest-D 500 mg Tablet is a combination of calcium carbonate and vitamin D3. It is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, tetany, hypoparathyroidism, disorders of osteogenesis, and as a supplement in cases of inadequate calcium intake. It also has other indications, such as being a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure.

- Composition:
- Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU
- Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU
- Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP
- Pharmacology: Adequate Calcium in the blood is essential for various bodily functions. Vitamin D is crucial for healthy bones as it aids in Calcium absorption, stimulates bone formation, and has synergistic effects on bone growth.
- Dosage & Administration: One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water, or as directed by the physician. Effervescent tablet should be dissolved in a glass of water before consumption.
- Interaction: Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium, systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption, and ion exchange resins and laxatives may reduce the gastrointestinal absorption of vitamin D.
- Contraindications:
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the component
- Severe renal insufficiency
- Concomitant digoxin therapy

- GI irritation
- Constipation
- Hypercalcemia
- Allergic reactions

- Dry mouth
- Drowsiness
- Skin rash (from vitamin D supplements)
- Pregnancy & Lactation: Daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol. Overdoses should be avoided to prevent adverse effects on the developing fetus.
- Precautions & Warnings: Serum calcium levels should be followed during long-term treatment, especially in elderly patients and those with high tendency to calculus formation. Renal function should be monitored in patients with impairment and caution is advised in immobilized patients with osteoporosis.
- Overdose Effects: Hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcemia are potential overdose effects, leading to symptoms such as anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, muscle weakness, and cardiac arrhythmias.
