Composition

  • Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU per tablet
  • Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU per DX tablet
  • Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP per effervescent tablet

Dosage & Administration

  • One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water
  • Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water and drink orally

Interactions

  • Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
  • Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
  • Reduced absorption with ion exchange resins and laxatives
  • Interference with tetracycline preparations absorption
  • Increased toxicity of cardiac glycosides during hypercalcaemia
  • Administration timing with bisphosphonate or sodium fluoride
  • Inhibition of calcium absorption by oxalic acid and phytic acid

Contraindications

  • Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
  • Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
  • Hypersensitivity to the component of this preparation
  • Severe renal insufficiencies
  • Concomitant digoxin therapy

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • No indications that vitamin D at therapeutic doses is teratogenic in humans
  • Vitamin D3 passes into breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

  • Monitoring of serum calcium levels and renal function during long-term treatment
  • Caution in patients with impairment of renal function
  • Risk of soft tissue calcification
  • Caution in immobilized patients with osteoporosis
  • Consideration of vitamin D dose when prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D
  • Frequent monitoring of serum calcium levels and urinary calcium excretion

Overdose Effects

  • Hypervitaminosis D
  • Hypercalcaemia
  • Symptoms such as anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances
