Description
Egical-D is a combination of calcium carbonate and vitamin D3 used for the prevention and treatment of calcium and vitamin D deficiency. It is also indicated for osteoporosis, osteomalacia, tetany, hypoparathyroidism, disorders of osteogenesis, and other conditions requiring calcium and vitamin D supplementation.

- Composition:
- Each tablet contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU
- Each DX tablet contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU
- Each effervescent tablet contains Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP
- Pharmacology: Calcium and Vitamin D are essential for healthy bones and are vital for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and associated fractures. Vitamin D aids in Calcium absorption from the GI tract and stimulates bone formation. Coral Calcium ensures better absorption.
- Dosage & Administration: One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water. Effervescent tablet can be dissolved in a glass of water and taken orally.
- Interaction: Interaction with thiazide diuretics, systemic corticosteroids, ion exchange resins, laxatives, tetracycline preparations, cardiac glycosides, bisphosphonates, sodium fluoride, oxalic acid, phytic acid.
- Contraindications:
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the component
- Severe renal insufficiencies
- Concomitant digoxin therapy
- Side Effects:
- GI tract irritation
- Constipation
- Hypercalcemia
- Allergic reactions
- Irregular heartbeats
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Decreased appetite
- Dry mouth
- Drowsiness
- Pregnancy & Lactation: Daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol. Overdoses should be avoided.
- Precautions & Warnings: Monitoring of serum calcium levels, renal function, especially in elderly patients and those with a high tendency to calculus formation. Caution in patients with impaired renal function, sarcoidosis, immobilized patients with osteoporosis.
- Overdose Effects: Hypervitaminosis D, hypercalcemia, symptoms include anorexia, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, nephrocalcinosis, and in severe cases, cardiac arrhythmias.
