Description
Fexobest is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children 12 years of age and older.
Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria
Dosage and administration
- Allergic rhinitis:
- Adults and children 12 and older:
- 60 mg twice daily
- 120 mg once daily
- 180 mg once daily
- Children 6 to 11 years:
- 30 mg twice daily
- 60 mg once daily
- Children 2 to 11 years:
- 30 mg or 5 ml twice daily
- Adults and children 12 and older:
- Chronic idiopathic urticaria:
- Adults and children 12 and older:
- 60 mg twice daily
- 120 mg once daily
- 180 mg once daily
- Children 6 to 11 years:
- 30 mg twice daily
- 60 mg once daily
- Children 6 months to less than 2 years:
- 15 mg or 2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) twice daily
- Adults and children 12 and older:
Pharmacology
Fexofenadine is an H1 histamine receptor inverse agonist, preventing activation and downstream effects. It has potent and selective affinity for H1 receptors, without CNS effects.
Interaction
- Erythromycin or ketoconazole: 2-3 times increase in fexofenadine level in plasma
- Omeprazole: No interaction observed
- Antacid containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide: Reduction in bioavailability if administered 15 minutes prior to Fexobest
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients

- Older people and renally or hepatically impaired patients: Limited data available, should be administered with care
- Patients with cardiovascular disease: Should be warned about potential adverse reactions
- Ability to drive and use machines: Unlikely to produce effect on the ability to drive or use machines
Use in special populations
- Renal and hepatic impaired patient: Altered pharmacokinetics in renal impairment, no substantial effect in moderate to severe hepatic disease
- Elderly patient: Similar adverse events to patients under 65 years, altered pharmacokinetics in individuals over 65 years
