Indications

Pharmacology

  • Biguanide type oral antihyperglycemic drug
  • Lowers basal and postprandial plasma glucose

  • Liver function test abnormalities or hepatitis

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Increased risk of congenital abnormalities and perinatal mortality
  • Breastfeeding not recommended during treatment

Precautions & Warnings

  • Excreted by the kidney
  • Potential for lactic acidosis
  • Lowering of vitamin B12 levels
  • Increased risk of hypoglycemia
  • Regular monitoring of renal function advised
  • Therapy should be stopped before certain clinical investigations
  • Annual estimation of Vitamin B-12 levels recommended

Use in Special Populations
