Description
Olmefast 10 mg Tablet is an angiotensin II receptor blocker used to treat high blood pressure. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
Dosage
Dosage must be individualized. The usual recommended starting dose of Olmesartan is 20 mg once daily when used as monotherapy in patients who are not volume-contracted. For patients requiring further reduction in blood pressure after 2 weeks of therapy, the dose of Olmesartan may be increased to 40 mg.

ModeOfAction
Olmefast blocks the vasoconstrictor effects of angiotensin II by selectively blocking its binding to the AT 1 receptor in vascular smooth muscle. It does not inhibit ACE and does not affect the response to bradykinin.
Interaction
- No significant drug interactions reported in studies with digoxin or warfarin
- Bioavailability not significantly altered by antacids
- Not metabolized by the cytochrome P450 system
- Potential interaction with NSAIDs including selective COX-2 inhibitors
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of this product
SideEffects
- Well-tolerated with adverse reactions similar to placebo
- Incidence of adverse reactions not dose-related
- Most common adverse reaction: dizziness
- Other adverse reactions include back pain, bronchitis, diarrhea, headache, hyperglycemia, and more
PregnancyLactation
Discontinue Olmesartan as soon as pregnancy is detected due to potential harm to the developing fetus. Caution advised during lactation.

- Inhibiting the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system may lead to changes in renal function
- Associtation with oliguria, progressive azotemia, and rare cases of acute renal failure

- Likely effects: hypotension and tachycardia
