Description

  • Used to treat excessive postoperative bleeding
  • Provided orally or intravenously
  • Can reduce blood loss in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting
  • Can be used to treat overdose and/or toxic effects of thrombolytic pharmacologic agents
  • Pharmacology involves inhibition of plasminogen activators and antiplasmin activity
  • Dosage must be adjusted to individual cases based on severity of the hemorrhagic event

  • Dosage usually ranges from 8-16 gm a day
