Description
- Allertin ODT is a non-sedating antihistamine used for the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, urticaria, and hay fever symptoms.
Dosage
- 20 mg tablet once daily for adults & adolescents (12 years of age and over)
- 10 mg mouth dissolving tablet for children between 6 to 11 years
- 4 ml once daily for children between 2 to 11 years
Pharmacology
- Potent, effective, non-sedating, long-acting histamine antagonist with selective & high affinity to H1 receptor
- Excellent safety profile and very favorable pharmacokinetic characteristics
Indications
- Symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (seasonal and perennial) and urticaria
- Relief of hay fever symptoms such as sneezing, itching, runny nose, and watery eyes
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients of the tablet
Interaction
- Concomitant use with ketoconazole, erythromycin, cyclosporine, or diltiazem increases the concentration of Allertin ODT
- No potentiation of depressant CNS effects with lorazepam

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Limited data in pregnant women, preferable to avoid use during pregnancy
- Decision regarding breastfeeding should consider the benefit of therapy for the mother and child
Precautions & Warnings
- Rarely may cause drowsiness, affecting driving or machine use
- Efficacy and safety in elderly patients (≥65 years) comparable to younger patients
Use in Special Populations
- Not established in children under 2 years of age and limited experience in children aged 2 to 5 years
Overdose Effects
- At doses 10 to 11 times the therapeutic dose, adverse events were reported with increased frequency compared to placebo
- Most frequently reported adverse reactions include dizziness, headache, and nausea
