Description
Acipra Gastro-resistant tablets are indicated for the treatment of active duodenal ulcer, active benign gastric ulcer, symptomatic erosive or ulcerative gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastro-esophageal reflux disease long-term management, symptomatic treatment of moderate to very severe gastro-esophageal reflux disease (symptomatic GERD), Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, and in combination with appropriate antibacterial therapeutic regimens for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with peptic ulcer disease. Rabeprazole suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the gastric H+/K+-ATPase at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell.

- Dosage:
- 20 mg once daily for active duodenal ulcer and active benign gastric ulcer
- 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks for erosive or ulcerative GERD
- 20 mg or 10 mg once daily for GERD Maintenance
- 10 mg once daily for symptomatic GERD
- 60 mg once daily for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
- Eradiation therapy using 20 mg twice daily
- Administration: To be taken in the morning, before eating, and should not be chewed or crushed, but swallowed whole.
- Interaction:
- Potential interaction with ketoconazole and itraconazole
- No interaction with liquid antacids observed
- Not recommended to be co-administered with atazanavir
- Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Contra-indicated in pregnancy and during breastfeeding

- Pregnancy & Lactation: US FDA pregnancy category 'C'. No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Likely to be excreted in human milk.
- Precautions & Warnings:
- Malignancy should be excluded prior to treatment
- Regular surveillance for long-term treatment
- Modestly increased risk of hip, wrist and spine fracture in high doses and over long durations
- Risk of cross-hypersensitivity reactions
- Post marketing reports of blood dyscrasias and hepatic enzyme abnormalities observed
- Use in Special Populations:
- No dosage adjustment for renal or hepatic impairment
- Not recommended for use in children
- Overdose Effects: Effects are generally minimal, representative of the known adverse event profile and reversible without further medical intervention. No specific antidote is known.
