Description

Picolax Kids 5 mg/5 ml Oral Solution is indicated for the treatment of constipation in children and adults. It acts as a stimulant laxative by promoting colonic peristalsis and accumulation of water and electrolytes in the colon, resulting in softening of the stool and stimulation of defecation.

Recommended dosage

  • Tablets:
    • Adults and children over 10 years of age: 5-10 mg per day
    • Children aged 4-10 years: 2.5-5 mg per day
  • Oral solution:
    • Adults and children over 10 years of age: 5-10 ml or one to two teaspoonful per day
    • Children aged 4-10 years: 2.5-5 ml or half to one teaspoonful per day
    • Children from One month to 4 years of age: 0.25 ml/kg body weight per day
  • Concentrated oral solution:
    • Adults and children over 10 years of age: 0.67-1.33 ml per day
    • Children aged 4-10 years: 0.33-0.67 ml per day

Interaction

Concurrent use of diuretics or adreno-corticosteroids may increase the risk of electrolyte imbalance. Antibiotics may reduce the laxative action of Picolax Kids.

Contraindications

  • Ileus or intestinal obstruction
  • Severe painful and/or feverish acute abdominal conditions
  • Acute inflammatory bowel diseases
  • Severe dehydration
  • Known hypersensitivity to Sodium Picosulfate or any other component of the product

Precautions

Prolonged excessive use may lead to fluid and electrolyte imbalance and hypokalemia. Not recommended for individuals suffering from alcoholism, pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, and high-risk groups such as patients with liver disease or epilepsy.
