Description

Cefix is an orally active cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal activity against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.

Indications

  • Upper Respiratory Tract Infections
  • Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
  • Urinary Tract Infections

Mode of action

  • Bactericidal against broad spectrum of bacteria
  • Interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis

Dosage and administration

  • Usual treatment course of 7 days, extendable to 14 days
  • Adult dosage: 200-400 mg daily
  • Children dosage: 8 mg/kg/day
  • Dosage adjustment in severe renal impairment

Interaction

  • May affect prothrombin times in patients on anticoagulant therapy

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
