Lesterol 20 mg (Capsule)

Indications

• Therapy for individuals at significantly increased risk for atherosclerotic vascular disease
• Adjunct to diet for inadequate response to non-pharmacologic measures

Pharmacology

• Competitively inhibits HMG-CoA reductase
• Reduces total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, and VLDL concentrations
• Increases HDL concentrations

Dosage & Administration

• Oral administration
• Initial adult dose: 20-40 mg once daily in the evening
• May increase max up to 80 mg/day
• May be taken with or without food

Interaction

• May have interactions with coumarin anticoagulants
• May increase the risk of myopathy rhabdomyolysis with certain drugs
• Reduced bioavailability with concomitant rifampicin

Contraindications

• Acute liver disease or unexplained persistent elevation of serum aminotransferases
• Pregnancy and lactation
• Avoid administration of two 40 mg conventional cap at one time

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Category X: Contraindicated in pregnant women due to demonstrated foetal abnormalities or evidence of foetal risk

Precautions & Warnings

• History of liver disease and hereditary muscular disorders
• High alcohol intake
• Patients who have undergone major surgery and under immunosuppressive agents
• Manage hypothyroidism prior to treatment
• Severe renal impairment

Use in Special Populations

• No dosage adjustment needed for mild to moderate renal impairment

Overdose Effects

• Management involves symptomatic and supportive treatment
