Pitavas 2 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Adjunctive therapy to diet
• Reducing elevated total cholesterol
• Reducing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol
• Decreasing apolipoprotein B levels
• Lowering triglycerides
• Increasing HDL cholesterol
• Treating primary hyperlipidemia
• Managing mixed dyslipidemia

Pharmacology

• Lowers plasma cholesterol levels
• Inhibits HMG-CoA reductase
• Reduces cholesterol synthesis in the liver
• Increases hepatic LDL receptors
• Enhances uptake and catabolism of LDL

Dosage & Administration

• Oral administration
• Dose range of 1 to 4 mg
• Once daily dosing
• Can be taken with or without food
• Recommended starting dose of 2 mg
• Maximum dose of 4 mg
• Dosage adjustment based on lipid levels
• Special dosage for patients with renal impairment

Interaction

• Contraindicated with cyclosporine
• Significant interactions with erythromycin and rifampin
• Caution with concurrent use of fibrates
• No significant interaction with warfarin

Contraindications

• Known hypersensitivity to any component
• Active liver disease
• Unexplained persistent elevations of hepatic transaminase levels

Side Effects

• Rhabdomyolysis
• Myopathy
• Liver enzyme abnormalities

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy Category X
• Contraindicated in pregnant women
• Unknown excretion in human milk

Precautions & Warnings

• Caution in patients with predisposing factors for myopathy
• Increased risk in advanced age, renal impairment, and hypothyroidism
• Reported increase in serum transaminases

Overdose Effects

• No known specific treatment
• Symptomatic and supportive measures
• Unlikely benefit from hemodialysis
