Pivalo 2 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Reduce elevated total cholesterol
• Reduce LDL cholesterol
• Increase HDL cholesterol
• Treat primary hyperlipidemia
• Treat mixed dyslipidemia

Pharmacology

• Inhibits HMG-CoA reductase
• Lowers plasma cholesterol levels
• Increases hepatic LDL receptors

Dosage & Administration

• Dose range: 1-4 mg orally once daily
• Recommended starting dose: 2 mg
• Maximum dose: 4 mg
• Dosage adjustment based on lipid levels
• Special dosage for patients with renal impairment

Interaction

• Contraindicated with cyclosporine
• Caution with erythromycin and rifampin
• Administer with caution when used concomitantly with fibrates
• No significant pharmacokinetic interaction with warfarin

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to any component
• Active liver disease
• Known hypersensitivity to Pitavastatin
• Unexplained persistent elevations of hepatic transaminase levels

Side Effects

• Rhabdomyolysis
• Myopathy
• Liver enzyme abnormalities

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy Category X
• Contraindicated in pregnant women
• Unknown excretion in human milk

Precautions & Warnings

• Prescribed with caution in patients with predisposing factors for myopathy
• Increased risk in elderly patients, renal impairment, and hypothyroidism
• Elevations in serum transaminases reported

Overdose Effects

• No known specific treatment for overdose
• Symptomatic and supportive measures required
• Hemodialysis unlikely to be beneficial due to high protein binding ratio
