Indications
- Heterozygous Hypercholesterolemia
- Homozygous Hypercholesterolemia
- Mixed Dyslipidemia
- Primary prevention of cardiovascular disease
Pharmacology
- Selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase
- Increases hepatic LDL receptors
- Inhibits hepatic synthesis of VLDL
Dosage
- Dose range: 5-40 mg once daily
- Starting dose 20 mg/day for HoFH
- Pediatric dose: 5-20 mg/day for specific age groups
Administration
- Can be taken with or without food, at any time of day
Interaction
- Drug interactions with Cyclosporine, Gemfibrosil, Lopinavir/Ritonavir, Atazanavir/ritonavir, Coumarin anticoagulants, Concomitant lipid-lowering therapies
