Indications
- Relief of inflammatory manifestations
- Treatment of psoriasis
- Chronic atopic dermatitis relief
- Eczema treatment
- Seborrheic dermatitis relief
- Ichthyosis vulgaris treatment
Pharmacology
- Clobetasol Propionate: high potency corticosteroid
- Salicylic acid: keratolytic action, antiseptic action, antifungal activity
Dosage & Administration
- Apply a thin layer twice daily
- Adequate maintenance therapy may require less frequent application
- Discontinue therapy on achieving control
- Not recommended for use with occlusive dressing
- Not recommended for children under 12 years of age
Interaction
- No reported interaction with Clobetasol Propionate ointment and cream
- Topical salicylic acid may increase absorption of other topically applied medicines
- Concomitant use of Salicylic Acid Ointment and other topical medicines on the same area of skin should be avoided
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Clobetasol Propionate
- Primary infected bacterial or fungal skin lesions without anti-infective agent
- Primary cutaneous viral infections
- Tuberculous skin lesions
- Use in children under one year of age
- Salicylate hypersensitivity
- Sensitivity to any other ingredient in the preparation
Side Effects
- Prolonged use may result in systemic absorption
- Local atrophy may occur after prolonged treatment
- Possible sensitivity reactions, drying, and irritation when using Salicylic Acid
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Topical administration of corticosteroids to pregnant animals can cause abnormalities of fetal development
- Safe use during lactation not established
- Salicylic Acid safety not established, caution advised during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution on lesions close to the eye
- Extensive use may lead to adrenal suppression
- Hazardous in psoriasis for various reasons
- Appropriate antimicrobial therapy should be used
- Avoid contact with broken or inflammed skin
- Salicylate toxicity may occur if applied to large areas of skin or to the skin of neonates
Overdose Effects
- Acute overdosage unlikely, discontinuation under medical supervision if chronic overdosage occurs
- Symptoms of systemic salicylate poisoning reported after application of Salicylic Acid to large areas of skin
- Salicylism unlikely if used as indicated, serious poisoning unlikely with single doses less than 100 mg/kg

- Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light
