Indications
- Treatment of superficial infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Treatment of burns, wounds, ulceration, otitis externa, neuro-dermatitis, and eczema
- Adjunct to systemic steroid therapy in special kinds of pyoderma
Pharmacology
- Active topical corticosteroid (Betamethasone)
- Topical broad-spectrum bactericidal amino-glycoside (Neomycin Sulfate)
- Effective against gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens
- Effective penetration and uniform distribution capacity
- Very effective in hairy and intertriginous places
- Effective for the treatment of wet ulceration of the skin
Dosage & Administration
- Applied as a thin layer for 3 to 4 times daily in adults
- Gradual withdrawal in chronic conditions
- Avoid use on children under 1 year of age
- Max 5-day course for children unless otherwise stated by physician
Interaction
- No significant drug interactions reported
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any components
- Not for the treatment of otitis externa with perforated eardrum
- Contraindicated in skin lesions caused by viral and fungal infections
Side Effects
- Prolonged and high doses may cause Cushing's syndrome, acne, thinning and dilatation of blood vessels
- Particularly when occlusive dressings are used
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not to be used extensively in pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid long term continuous topical therapy to prevent resistant microorganisms
- Use accurate dose in infected areas only
