Indications
- Treatment of post-operative ocular pain and inflammation
- Inhibition of surgery induced miosis
- Prevention of post-operative cystoid macular edema (CME)
Pharmacology
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory prodrug (NSAID)
- Converted by ocular tissue hydrolase to Amfenac
- Inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzyme
Dosage & Administration
- Nepafenac 0.1% Sterile Ophthalmic Suspension - For post-operative pain & inflammation, surgery induced miosis, prevention of post-operative CME
- Nepafenac 0.3% Sterile Ophthalmic Suspension - For post-operative pain & inflammation
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
- Hypersensitivity to other NSAIDs
Side Effects
- Foreign body sensation
- Lid margin crusting
- Ocular discomfort
- Ocular hyperemia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use in pregnancy - potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
- Use in lactation - caution should be exercised
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with known bleeding tendencies
- Use in patients receiving medications which may prolong bleeding time
Use in Special Populations
- Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients below 18 years of age
