Indications
- Replacement therapy in hypothyroidism

Pharmacology
- Contains synthetic Levothyroxine
- Conversion of T4 to the more active T3
- TBG as the major carrier of T4
- Long half-life in circulation
- Enterohepatic circulation of Thyroid hormones
Dosage & Administration
- Initial starting dose: 25-50 mcg/day
- Dose adjustments at 6-8 week intervals
- Different dosages for severe hypothyroidism and age groups
- Pediatric dosage based on age and clinical response
Interaction
- Concurrent use with tri/tetracyclic antidepressants
- Addition to antidiabetic or insulin therapy
- Careful monitoring of diabetic control
Contraindications
- Untreated subclinical or overt Thyrotoxicosis
- Acute Myocardial Infarction
- Uncorrected Adrenal failure
Side Effects
- Adverse reactions primarily of hyperthyroidism due to therapeutic overdose

Pregnancy & Lactation
