Indications
- Prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions including rhinitis and conjunctivitis
- Alleviating complications of itching, pain, and tenderness associated with neurofibroma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergies such as hayfever and urticaria
Pharmacology
- Anti-allergic properties
- Antihistamine
- Anti-anaphylactic properties
- Sustained inhibitory effect on histamine reactions
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 1 mg twice daily with food, may increase to 2 mg in severe cases
- Children (above 3 years): 1 mg twice daily with food, start with 0.5-1 mg for easily sedated patients
- Elderly: Same as adult dose or as advised by the physician
Interaction
- Potentiate effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohols
- Reversible fall in platelet count when used with oral antidiabetic agents
Contraindications
- Avoid concomitant use with oral antidiabetic agents
- No recommendations for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding

Precautions & Warnings
- Continue previous treatment for a minimum of two weeks after starting
- Possible exacerbation of asthma if previous treatment is not continued
- Supplement Masfen treatment with antimicrobial therapy during intercurrent infection
- Impaired reactions at the beginning of treatment, avoid driving or operating machinery
- Avoid alcoholic drinks
