Indications
- Treatment of single or mixed infections caused by susceptible organisms
- Infections resistant to other antibiotics
- Infections of urinary, respiratory, and gastrointestinal tracts
- Gonorrhea and septicaemia treatment
- Infections of skin, soft tissue, biliary tract, and intra abdominal infections
Pharmacology
- Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
- Broad spectrum of activity
- Bactericidal action interfering with DNA gyrase
- Rapid and well absorption from GI tract
- Widely distributed into body tissues and fluids
- Excretion in urine as unchanged drug and metabolites
Dosage
- Dosage determined by infection severity and patient characteristics
- Dosage range for adults: 100-750 mg twice daily
- Different dosage for specific infections
- Dosage adjustments for impaired renal function
- Adult dosage for cystic fibrosis: 750 mg twice daily
- Duration of treatment based on infection severity and clinical response

- Instructions for Ciprofloxacin IV infusion

Interaction
- Avoid concurrent use with certain antacids and products containing Calcium, Iron, Zinc
- Do not take concurrently with milk or dairy products
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones

- Joint pain and mild photosensitivity
- Transient increase in liver enzymes

Pregnancy & Lactation

- Evidence of arthropathy in immature animals
- Not recommended for use during pregnancy or nursing mothers

- Use with caution in patients with CNS disorders
- Instructions for taking with or without meals
- Caution for concurrent administration with certain antacids and products containing Calcium, Iron, Zinc
- Avoid concurrent use with milk or yogurt alone
Use in Special Populations

Overdose Effects
- Seizures, hallucinations, confusion
- Abdominal discomfort, renal and hepatic impairment
- Crystalluria, haematuria, and reversible renal toxicity
