Description
Cotrimoxazole is a bactericidal medication with broad-spectrum activity, used to treat respiratory, genito-urinary, and gastrointestinal tract infections, among others.

Mode of Action
Bactericidal action against gram-positive & gram-negative bacteria and some protozoa by sequential blockade of bacterial enzyme systems in the biosynthesis of folinic acid.
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dosages for adults and children over 12 years
- Different dosages for mild to severe infections
- Long-term therapy dosages
- Specific dosages for gonorrhoea
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to trimethoprim or sulphonamides
- Megaloblastic anaemia due to folate deficiency
- Severe liver damage
- Blood dyscrasia
- Severe renal insufficiency
- Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency
