Pharmacological Action
- Selective monoaminergic antagonist
- High affinity for serotoninergic 5-HT2 and dopaminergic D2 receptors
- Binds to alpha1 adrenergic receptors
- Acts with lower affinity to H1 histamine and alpha2 adrenergic receptors
Dosage and Administration
- Initial dose of 2 mg in 1-2 divided doses on the 1st day
- Usual dose range of 4-6 mg daily
- Maximum dose of 16 mg daily
Indications
- Treatment of acute and chronic psychoses
- Treatment of mania
- Treatment of schizophrenia
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to the product
Interaction
- Antagonizes the effects of levodopa and dopamine agonists
- Reduces plasma clearance when chronically administered with Carbamazepine
- May enhance the effects of certain antihypertensives
