DosageInstructions
- 200-800 mg 2-3 times daily
- 1-2 gm once daily
- Intravaginal application once or twice daily for 5 days
- 1 g every 8-12 hours for 3 days
Pharmacology
- Imidazole class antibacterial drug
- Antiprotozoal agent
- Interacts with DNA for bactericidal action
Interaction
- Disulfiram - may cause psychotic reactions
- Alcohol - may lead to disulfiram-like reaction
- Warfarin - potentiation of anticoagulant effect
- Lithium - may increase plasma levels
- Cyclosporin - requires close monitoring
- Phenytoin or phenobarbital - may reduce plasma levels
- 5-Fluorouracil - may increase toxicity
- Busulfan - may increase plasma levels

- Hypersensitivity to Metronidazole or Nitroimidazole derivatives
