Indications
- Adjunct to diet and exercise
- Improves glycemic control
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus
Pharmacology
- Inhibits DPP-4 enzyme
- Increases concentrations of active incretin hormones
- Stimulates insulin release
- Reduces glucagon levels
- Inhibitor of Sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2)
- Reduces renal reabsorption of filtered glucose
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose: 10 mg Empagliflozin and 5 mg Linagliptin once daily
- Increased dose: 25 mg Empagliflozin and 5 mg Linagliptin once daily
- Assessment for renal function before initiation
- Morning administration with or without food
Interaction
- Coadministration with diuretics
- Coadministration with Insulin or Insulin Secretagogues
- Interaction with inducers of P-glycoprotein or CYP3A4 enzymes
- Impact on urine glucose test and 1,5-anhydroglucitol assay
Contraindications
- Severe renal impairment or end-stage renal disease
- Hypersensitivity reaction to Linagliptin or Empagliflozin

- Reports of serious infections and necrotizing fasciitis
- Association with heart failure observed
