Indications
- Treatment of ventricular fibrillation
- Treatment of ventricular tachycardia
- Treatment of atrial fibrillation
- Treatment of atrial flutter
- Prophylaxis of ventricular fibrillation

Pharmacology
- Corrects abnormal rhythms of the heart
- Broad spectrum antiarrhythmic medication
- Delays the rate of heart's electrical system recharging
- Prolongs electrical phase during which the heart's muscle cells are stimulated
- Slows the speed of electrical conduction
- Reduces rapidity of firing of the heart's pacemaker
- Causes blood vessels to dilate
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet dosage: 200mg 3 times daily for 1 week, then reduced to 200mg twice daily
- Injection dosage: Initial load of 1000mg over first 24 hours, with specific infusion regimen
Interaction
- Interacts with b blockers
- Increases blood levels of Digoxin
- Increases Flecainide blood concentrations
- Increases Procainamide and Quinidine concentrations
- Interacts with tricyclic antidepressants
- Interacts with Warfarin
- Inhibits the metabolism of Dextromethorphan
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in cardiogenic shock
- Contraindicated in severe sinus-node dysfunction
- Contraindicated in second- or third-degree atrioventricular block
- Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to the drug or its components

- Vasculitis, renal involvement, thrombocytopenia
- Haemolytic or aplastic anemia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Should not be administered during pregnancy
- Caution should be taken in lactating women
