Indications
- Adjunct to diet for reducing very high triglyceride levels
- Secondary prevention for patients with recent myocardial infarction
- Reduction of joint inflammation associated with mild arthritis
- Assistance in managing mood disorders and impulse control
- Improvement in age-related macular degeneration
Composition
- Total Omega-3-Acid Ethyl Esters: 1000 mg
- Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA): 80 mg
- Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA): 120 mg
Pharmacology
- Reduction of triglyceride production by the liver
- Inhibition of triglyceride synthesis
- Increase in fatty acid metabolism
- Enhanced activity of lipoprotein lipase
- Decrease in production of VLDL-C
Dosage & Administration
- Hypertriglyceridaemia:
- 4 capsules (4 gm) once daily
- 2 capsules (2 gm) twice daily
- Previous myocardial infarction patients: 1 capsule (1 gm) daily
- Joint inflammation associated with mild arthritis: 2.7 gm daily
- Mood disorders & impulse control, age-related macular degeneration: 1 capsule (1 gm) per day or as directed by physician
Interaction
Can be given in conjunction with warfarin, but prothrombin time must be monitored
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any component of the medication

Precautions & Warnings
- Monitoring required for patients receiving anticoagulant therapy
- Increased bleeding time in high-risk patients
- Not recommended for use in children
- Thromboxane A2 production reduction
- No significant effect on other coagulation factors
- Monitoring of ASAT and ALAT levels in patients with signs of liver damage
- Not indicated in exogenous hypertriglyceridaemia
- Caution in secondary endogenous hypertriglyceridaemia
