Indications

  • Symptomatic treatment of Seasonal & Perennial Allergic Rhinitis and Urticaria

Pharmacology

  • Long-acting non-sedative antagonist of histamine H1-receptors
  • Antagonizes platelet activating factor (PAF)
  • Inhibition of degranulation of mast cells
  • Inhibition of release of cytokines

Dosage & Administration

  • Adults and adolescents (over 12 years): 10 mg once a day
  • Children aged 2 to 11 years: 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) for children weighing 25 kg or more
  • Children aged 2 to 11 years: 1/2 teaspoonful (2.5 ml) for children weighing equal or more than 10 kg to less than 25 kg

Interaction

  • Concomitant administration of 20 mg Rudine with ketoconazole or erythromycin increases systemic exposure
  • Contraindicated with grapefruit and grapefruit juice

  • Hypersensitivity to Rupatadine or any of the excipients

Precautions & Warnings

  • Use with caution in patients with known prolongation of the QT interval
  • Use with caution in elderly patients
  • Not recommended in patients with impaired kidney or liver function

Use in Special Populations

  • Elderly: Use with caution without dose adjustment
  • Children: Safety and efficacy not established in patients less than 12 years of age
  • Patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency: Not recommended without relevant clinical data

Overdose Effects

  • Most common adverse reaction is somnolence
  • Symptomatic treatment and supportive measures required for accidental ingestion of very high doses
