Pharmacology
- Telmisartan acts on the AT1 subtype of angiotensin II receptor
- Telmisartan dilates blood vessels and reduces blood pressure without affecting pulse rate
- Amiodipine inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ion into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle
- Amiodipine causes a reduction in peripheral vascular resistance and blood pressure
Dosage & Administration
- Usual starting dose: 40/5 mg once daily
- Initial therapy not recommended in patients over 75 years old or with hepatic impairment
- Individualized dosage and potential increase after 2 weeks
- Maximum recommended dose: 80/10 mg once daily
Interaction
- No clinically significant interactions with acetaminophen, glyburide, simvastatin, hydrochlorothiazide, warfarin, ibuprofen, thiazide diuretics, beta-blockers, etc.
- Possible inhibition of CYP2C19 metabolism by telmisartan
