Description

  • Orally active cephalosporin antibiotic
  • Treatment for Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI)
  • Treatment for Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
  • Treatment for Urinary Tract Infections
  • Bactericidal activity against a wide variety of organisms
  • Broad spectrum of gram positive and gram negative bacteria
  • Interferes in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
  • 40%-50% absorption with or without food
  • Highly stable in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme
  • Usual course of treatment is 7 days
  • Recommended dosage for adults and children over 10 years
  • Recommended dosage for elderly patients
  • Recommended dosage for children and infants
  • Caution in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy
  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
  • Generally well tolerated with mild and self limiting adverse reactions
  • Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly needed

Pharmacology

  • Third generation semisynthetic cephalosporin
  • Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of bacteria
