Indications

Treatment of hypertension

Pharmacology

Olmesartan blocks vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin-II
Hydrochlorothiazide affects renal tubular mechanisms of electrolyte reabsorption

Dosage & Administration

Starting dose of 20/12.5 mg once daily
May be titrated to two tablets 40/25 mg once daily

Interaction

Olmesartan has no significant drug interactions reported
Hydrochlorothiazide may interact with alcohol, barbiturates, narcotics, antidiabetic drugs, other antihypertensive drugs, corticosteroids, lithium

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
Anuria or hypersensitivity to sulfonamide-derived drugs

Use in Special Populations

Usual therapy regimen for renal impairment with creatinine clearance >30 ml/min
Loop diuretics preferred in more severe renal impairment
No dosage adjustment necessary with hepatic impairment
Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients
Caution in dose selection for elderly patients

Overdose Effects

Olmesartan may cause hypotension and tachycardia
Hydrochlorothiazide may result in electrolyte depletion and dehydration
