Indications

  • Heterozygous Hypercholesterolemia (Familial and Non familial)
  • Homozygous Hypercholesterolemia (Familial)
  • Mixed Dyslipidemia (Fredrickson Type IIa and IIb)
  • Primary prevention of cardiovascular disease

Pharmacology

Selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, increases hepatic LDL receptors, inhibits hepatic synthesis of VLDL and LDL particles

Dosage

5-40 mg once daily for adults, 20 mg/day for HoFH, 5-20 mg/day for pediatric patients

Administration

Can be taken with or without food, at any time of day

Interaction

  • Cyclosporine
  • Gemfibrosil
  • Lopinavir/Ritonavir or atazanavir/ritonavir
  • Coumarin anticoagulants
  • Concomitant lipid-lowering therapies

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to product components
  • Liver disease
  • Pregnant women
  • Nursing mothers
