Description
- An antiseptic and disinfectant solution for cleansing and irrigating the skin and dirty wounds where an added surfactant effect is required.

Pharmacology
- Chlorhexidine as antiseptic and disinfectant
- Cetrimide as a quaternary ammonium disinfectant with emulsifying and detergent properties
Dosage and administration
- Rinse with water before application
- Apply minimum amount of irrigation necessary
- Gently wash and rinse thoroughly
- Apply to wound as necessary
- Discard remaining solution after use
- Use with care in neonates and premature infants
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine or cetrimide
- Do not use to irrigate the brain, meninges, eyes, or perforated eardrum
Side effects
- Irritative skin reactions
- Hypersensitivity reactions to chlorhexidine
- Prolonging effect on wound healing process by cetrimide
Pregnancy and lactation
- Limited data for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women
- Products are poorly absorbed through topical application
- Rinse nipples thoroughly with water before breastfeeding as a general precaution
Precautions and warnings
- For external use only
- Not for injection, for irrigation only
- Not isotonic and is haemolytic
- Restrict use to infection control and wound cleansing rather than general wound management
Overdose effects
- Accidental ingestion unlikely to cause systemic effects
- Ingestion of high concentrations could cause irritation of gastrointestinal mucosa/gastritis
- Symptomatic treatment and gastric lavage if needed
