Description

Dosage

- 40-80 mg twice daily for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome in adults
- Specific dosages for children based on weight and age
- Not approved for use in children under 1 year
Composition
- 20 mg Esomeprazole (as Esomeprazole Magnesium Trihydrate USP) in each tablet
- 133.333 mg (15%w/w) of Esomeprazole in 20 mg MUPS tablet
- 266.67 mg (15% w/w) of Esomeprazole in 40 mg MUPS tablet
Indications
- Treatment of Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
- Reduction of risk in NSAID associated gastric ulcer
- H. pylori eradication (Triple therapy)
- Management of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and idiopathic hypersecretion
Mode of Action
- Inhibits gastric acid by blocking the proton pump enzyme system
Interaction
- Metabolized by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 enzymes in the liver
- No clinically significant interactions with many CYP enzymes
- Potential interactions with diazepam, ketoconazole, and iron salts
- Dose reduction may be needed with certain co-administered drugs
Administration
- Tablets should be swallowed whole with liquid
- Can be dispersed in half a glass of water if needed
- Do not chew or crush the tablets
- Ensure tablets disintegrate completely before consumption
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any components of the formulation
Side Effects
- Common adverse events include headache, diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain
- No significant difference in side effects between short and long-term use
Pregnancy & Lactation
