Pharmacology
- Mode of Action: Selective ß1 adrenergic receptor blocker
- Effect on Heart Rate: Reduces heart rate
- Effect on Cardiac Output: Reduces cardiac output
- Effect on Arterial Hypertension: Decreases arterial hypertension
- Lipid Metabolism: Does not affect cholesterol fraction including HDL-cholesterol
- Pharmacokinetic Properties:
- Absorption and Bioavailability: High absorption rate and absolute bioavailability of 88%
- Distribution: Extensively distributed with medium distribution volume of 3.51L/kg
- Metabolism: Primarily metabolized via oxidative pathways
- Elimination: Balanced between renal elimination and hepatic metabolism
Dosage and Administration
- Adult: Initial dose of 5 mg once daily, may be increased up to 20 mg once daily
- Children: Safety and effectiveness not established
- Patients With Renal or Hepatic Impairment: Initial daily dose should be 5 mg
