Description
- Rosuvastatin is indicated in Heterozygous Hypercholesterolemia, Homozygous Hypercholesterolemia, Mixed Dyslipidemia, and Primary prevention of cardiovascular disease. It is a selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, producing lipid-modifying effects by increasing the number of hepatic LDL receptors and inhibiting hepatic synthesis of VLDL and LDL. The dose range is 5-40 mg once daily. It can be taken with or without food at any time of day. Rosuvastatin has remarkable drug interactions with Cyclosporine, Gemfibrosil, Lopinavir/Ritonavir or atazanavir/ritonavir, Coumarin anticoagulants, and concomitant lipid-lowering therapies. It is contraindicated in case of known hypersensitivity, liver disease, pregnancy, and lactation. The most frequent adverse events are headache, myalgia, constipation, asthenia, abdominal pain, and nausea. It is not established for use in children. The therapeutic class includes Other Anti-anginal & Anti-ischaemic drugs and Statins. Rosuvastatin should be stored below 30°C temperature, protected from light & moisture, and out of the reach of children.
