Composition
- Tablet contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg
- Each tablet contains 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU
- Each DX tablet contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg
- Each effervescent tablet contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP
Pharmacology

- Vitamin D essential for healthy bones & aids in Calcium absorption
- Coral Calcium structure similar to human bone for better absorption
- Vitamin D3 aids in absorption and helps maintain Calcium balance
Dosage & Administration
- One tablet once or twice daily with water
- Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water and drink orally
- Taking with full stomach ensures better absorption
Interaction
- Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
- Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
- Ion exchange resins and laxatives may reduce vitamin D absorption
- Calcium carbonate may interfere with tetracycline absorption
- Hypercalcaemia may increase toxicity of cardiac glycosides
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the preparation's components
- Severe renal insufficiencies
- Concomitant digoxin therapy
Side Effects
- May cause irritation and constipation
- Rarely produces hypercalcemia when given in large doses
- May cause allergic reactions, irregular heartbeats, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, dry mouth and drowsiness
- Vitamin D supplements may cause skin rash
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol
- Overdoses should be avoided as they may cause permanent hypercalcemia
- Vitamin D at therapeutic doses is not teratogenic in humans
- Calcium and vitamin D3 pass into breast milk, should be considered when giving additional vitamin D to the child
Precautions & Warnings
- Serum calcium levels should be followed during long-term treatment
- Renal function should be monitored, especially in elderly patients and those on concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics
- Vitamin D should be used with caution in patients with impaired renal function
- Patients with severe renal insufficiency should use other forms of vitamin D
- Prescribed with caution to patients suffering from sarcoidosis and immobilized patients with osteoporosis
Overdose Effects
- Can lead to hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcemia
- Symptoms may include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, nephrolithiasis, cardiac arrhythmias, coma, and death
- Treatment involves discontinuing calcium and other medications, rehydration, and monitoring serum electrolytes and renal function
