Indications
- temporarily relieves symptoms due to common cold
- relieves symptoms due to hay fever
- relieves symptoms due to upper respiratory allergies
Symptoms Relieved

Pharmacology
- mixture of antitussive, decongestant and antihistamine agent
- dextromethorphan acts on cough centre in medulla
- phenylephrine shrinks blood vessels in nasal passages
- triprolidine provides relief dependent on histamine release
Dosage
- 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) for adults & children 12 years and older every 4 hours
- ½ teaspoonful (2.5 ml) for children 6 to under 12 years every 4 hours
- to be used with caution for children 2 to 6 years
- not for children below 2 years old
Administration
- take with or without food
- measure liquid doses carefully
- use the measuring device that comes with the medicine
Drug Interaction
- avoid certain MAO inhibitors
- exercise caution with antihistamines, antispasmodics, beta blockers, drugs for Parkinson’s disease, guanethidine, inhaled anesthetics, etc.
Contraindications
- avoid in patients with liver disease or asthma
- contraindicated in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors
- contraindicated in patients with severe hypertension or severe coronary artery disease

- use with caution in patients with epilepsy, prostatic hypertrophy, glaucoma, etc.
- consult a physician if symptoms do not improve within one week or accompanied by high fever
Overdose Effects
- hospital admission advised in case of overdose
- may produce respiratory depression
- nervous stimulation
- convulsions
- treatment includes emptying the stomach by aspiration or gastric lavage
