Indications

Pharmacology
Inhibition of CNS neuronal uptake of serotonin, blockage of serotonin reuptake at the neuronal membrane, enhancement of serotonin actions on 5HT1A autoreceptors, and no affinity for various receptors.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: Recommended starting dose is 50 mg, with a maximum therapeutic benefit not to exceed 300 mg per day
- Pediatric Population (children and adolescents): Recommended starting dose for pediatric populations (ages 8-17 years) is 25 mg, with a maximum dose depending on age and gender
- Elderly or Hepatically Impaired Patients: Decreased clearance observed, needing modification of initial dose and subsequent dose titration
Interaction
- Inhibition of cytochrome P450 isoenzymes
- Specific drug interactions like elevated carbamazepine levels, rare postmarketing reports of weakness with sumatriptan, increased tacrine levels with side effects, significant increase in plasma TCA levels with TCAs, severe vomiting with tryptophan, bradycardia with diltiazem coadministration, and dose reduction and cautious titration with propranolol or metoprolol
Contraindications
Coadministration of specific medications to be avoided, and not to use MAOIs intended to treat psychiatric disorders with Fluvoxamine Maleate Tablets or within 14 days of stopping treatment
Side Effects
- Common reactions such as nausea, somnolence, insomnia, asthenia, nervousness, dyspepsia, abnormal ejaculation, sweating, anorexia, tremor, and vomiting
- Additional identified events for different patient groups
Pregnancy & Lactation
Consideration of potential risks and benefits when treating a pregnant woman, and secretion in human breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
Usage caution in patients with specific medical history, and impairment of performance of skilled tasks (driving)
