Indications

Pharmacology

Dosage & Administration
- Available in 500 mg & 750 mg tablets
- Available in 1000 mg tablet
- Administration: Oral
- Recommended starting dose: 1000 mg as a single dose
- May be taken with or without food
- Dosage for moderate or severe renal insufficiency
- Use not established in pediatric patients
Interaction
- NSAIDs may diminish antihypertensive effect of ACE-inhibitors
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to nabumetone or its excipients
- Contraindicated in patients with asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
- Contraindicated for peri-operative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal effects: diarrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, nausea, vomiting
- Central Nervous System effects: dizziness, headache, insomnia, fatigue
- Dermatologic effects: pruritus, rash
- Special Senses: tinnitus
- Miscellaneous: edema
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category C
- Use during pregnancy only if necessary
- Use during third trimester not recommended
- Not recommended for use in nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Associated with renal papillary necrosis in animals
- Related to abnormal renal pathology during long-term administration to animals
- Associated with renal toxicity in patients with conditions leading to reduction in renal blood flow or blood volume
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms include lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain
- Gastrointestinal bleeding can occur
- Hypertension, acute renal failure, respiratory depression, coma may occur but are rare
- Anaphylactoid reactions reported with therapeutic ingestion of NSAIDs
- Management involves symptomatic and supportive care, no specific antidotes
- Specific management indicated for patients seen within 4 hours of ingestion
