Description
Empagliflozin is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It also reduces the risk of cardiovascular death in adult patients with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease.
Dosage
The recommended dose of Empagliflozin is 10 mg once daily, taken in the morning, with or without food.
Pharmacology
Empagliflozin is a sodium glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor, which reduces renal absorption of glucose, resulting in increased glucose excretion and reduced hyperglycemia.

Contraindications
- History of serious hypersensitivity reaction to Empagliflozin

Pregnancy and lactation
- Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus
- Not recommended when breastfeeding
Precautions and warnings
- Assessment of renal function recommended
- Avoid initiation in patients with eGFR less than 45 ml/min/1.73 m^2
Overdose effects
Supportive measures recommended in case of overdose. Removal of Empanor by hemodialysis not studied.

Keep in a cool & dry place (below 30° C), protected from light & moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
