Indications
- Adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus
- To reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease
Pharmacology
- Sodium Glucose Co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) Inhibitor
- Reduces renal absorption of glucose
- Contributes to reduced hyperglycemia, weight loss, and blood pressure reduction
DosageAndAdministration
- Recommended dose: 10 mg once daily, with or without food
- Max dose: 25 mg once daily
- Correct volume depletion before initiation
- Assess renal function before initiation
Interactions
- Increased urine volume with diuretics
- Increased risk of hypoglycemia with insulin/insulin secretagogues
- Positive urine glucose test due to increased urinary glucose excretion
- Monitoring glycemic control with 1,5-AG assay not recommended

- History of serious hypersensitivity reaction to Empagliflozin or its ingredients
- Severe renal impairment
