Description
Tufcon 200 mg Tablet is a potent inhibitor of cyclooxygenase enzyme, thus it inhibits the synthesis of important inflammatory mediators such as thromboxane (TX) B2 and prostaglandin (PG) E2. It is used for relieving the pain of migraine headache, post-operative pain, and fever. It is contraindicated in cases of active gastrointestinal bleeding, active gastrointestinal ulceration, severe heart failure, and not recommended for use during the third trimester of pregnancy.
Dosage
- Adult: 200 mg for acute migraine attacks, 100-200 mg for mild to moderate pain
- Should be taken with food
- Pediatric dosage regimen not established
Pharmacology
- Belongs to the fenamate group
- Potent inhibitor of cyclooxygenase enzyme

- Absorbed from GI tract with 85% bioavailability
- Metabolized in the liver, excreted in urine and feces
Interaction
- Increases absorption with Metoclopramide and Magnesium hydroxide
- Decreases absorption with Aluminium hydroxide
- Increases risk of bleeding with anticoagulants and other NSAIDs
- Affects antihypertensive response to certain medications
Contraindications
- Active gastrointestinal bleeding
- Active gastrointestinal ulceration
- Severe heart failure
- History of gastrointestinal bleeding related to previous NSAID therapy

- Needed for patients with asthma, bleeding disorders, cardiovascular diseases, peptic ulceration, hypertension, liver infection, cardiac or renal function impairment, and elderly
- Increase water intake or dose reduction to reduce dysuria
