Multiform Dosage & Administration
- 200mg tid or 400mg bid for 7 days
- 800mg in the morning and 1-2g at night for 2 days
- 2g as a single dose for 1 day
- Vaginal Gel - one applicator full of Metronidazole gel once or twice a day for 5 days
- Suppository for anaerobic infections - 1g every 8 hours for 3 days
Pharmacology
- Member of the imidazole class of antibacterial drug
- Antiprotozoal agent
- 5-nitro group is reduced by anaerobes metabolically
- Interacts with DNA giving bactericidal action
