- Mode of Action:
- Calcium for normal nerve, muscle, and cardiac function
- Coral Calcium for better absorption
- Vitamin D3 for calcium absorption and bone formation
- Vitamin C as a powerful reducing agent and infection defense
- Dosage & Administration: Adolescents & Adults: 1 effervescent tablet per day. Children: ½ effervescent tablet per day. Infants: As prescribed by the physician. Dissolve one tablet in a glass of water.
- Interaction: Risk of hypercalcemia with thiazide diuretics, reduced absorption of calcium with certain foods, decreased effect of vitamin-D with phenytoin or barbiturates, reduced absorption of various medications with calcium salts
- Contraindications:
- Hypercalcaemia resulting from myeloma, bone metastases or other malignant bone disease
- Sarcoidosis
- Primary hyperparathyroidism
- Vitamin-D overdosage
- Severe renal failure
- Hypersensitivity to any tablet ingredients
- Side Effects:
- Occasional gastrointestinal disturbances
- Skin rash with Vitamin-D supplements
- Hypercalciuria
- Rare cases of hypercalcaemia with high Vitamin-D doses
- Pregnancy & Lactation: Supplementation under physician's direction, increased requirements for calcium and vitamin-D, teratogenic effects of vitamin-D overdoses in pregnant animals
- Precautions & Warnings:
- Supervision for patients with renal failure or hypercalciuria
- Periodic checks of plasma Calcium levels and urinary Calcium excretion
- Monitoring for urinary Calcium excretion in patients with renal stones
- Monitoring of serum and urinary Calcium levels and kidney function with long-term treatment
- Overdose Effects:
- Hypercalcaemia due to Vitamin-D toxicity
- Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, polyuria, constipation
- Vascular and organ calcification with chronic overdoses
