Indications
- Seasonal & Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
- Urticaria
Pharmacology
- Long-acting non-sedative antagonist of histamine H1-receptors
- Antagonizes platelet activating factor (PAF)
- Inhibition of degranulation of mast cells
- Inhibition of release of cytokines
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose of 10 mg once a day for adults and adolescents over 12 years old
- Different dosages for children based on weight
- May be taken with or without food
Interactions
- Concomitant administration with ketoconazole or erythromycin increases systemic exposure
- Caution with statins, CNS depressants, or alcohol
- Avoiding simultaneous intake with grapefruit or grapefruit juice
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Rupatadine or any of the excipients
Side Effects
- Common: Asthenia, dizziness, drowsiness
- Uncommon: Appetite increased, arthralgia, back pain, and more
- Rare: Palpitations, tachycardia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No clinical data available on exposure during pregnancy
- Potential benefit outweighing potential risk for the infant and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients with known prolongation of the QT interval
- Elderly patients aged 65 and older
- No recommended use in patients with impaired kidney or liver function
