Pharmacological Action
Binds to Vitamin D receptors, fat soluble, absorbed in small intestine, metabolized in liver and kidney
Dosage and Administration
- 40000 IU once weekly for 7 weeks for adults
- 20000 IU every 4 weeks for prevention in adults
- 1000 IU daily for film-coated tablet
- 400 IU/day for children under 1 year (syrup)
- 200000 IU every 6 months for adolescents (injection)
- 200000 IU as needed for Vitamin D deficiency (injection)
Interaction with Drugs
Interferes with drugs like Magnesium containing Antacids, Digoxin, Thiazide Diuretics, Corticosteroids
Contraindications
Hypercalcemia, hypersensitivity to Vitamin D3, evidence of Vitamin D3 toxicity
